Rati Agnihotri: My Husband Is A Wife Beater
We have heard that wife-beating exists even in the highest strata of society in our country. It is just that the woman's scream does not come put from the four walls of her home. Log kya kahenge!

Imagine 54-year old Rati Agnihotri dashing off to Worli police station to complain of physical abuse against her businessman husband Anil Virwani. And it has happened in the posh area opposite Atria Mall in Mumbai.

The story goes that Rati and Anil's marriage had hit a rough patch since some time but the couple managed to keep their differences behind closed doors.

Rati and Anil have been married since 29 years. They have a son Tanuj who made his film debut with Joe Rajan's Luv U Soniyo.

A source says, "It is a very sad story. Rati and Anil have been a couple who have a lot of money in their household and respect in society. The story of their personal relationship is a tearjerker."

When contacted, Senior PI Vinay Kulkarni at Worli Police Station confirmed and said, "Rati has complained against her husband for torturing and assaulting her. We have registered a case of section 498 (A) (husband subjecting a wife to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 350 (intentionally using force to any person without that person's consent) and 506 (criminal intimidation) IPC."

Surprisingly Anil was in denial when we called him. The man said, "What! Rati has complained against me? Why? I think you guys have got it all wrong. Everything is fine between us! She is in Lonavla looking after her mother who has been unwell since quite some time."

Despite repeated attempts, Rati remained unavailable for comment.

Rati  was one of the most sought after actresses in 1980s. She broke on the film scene with a fantastic debut film Ek Duujje Ke Liye (1981) opposite Kamal Haasan.

She quit films in '87 when she was at the top. After 16 years of saying no to movies, Rati finally said yes realizing that her son is growing up and she had more time for herself. Her comeback started with playing Kajol's glamorous mother in Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi (2001)
