Richard Gere-Shilpa Shetty On-Stage KISS Case: Actress Seeks Dismissal Of Plea From Court Against Her Discharge-Report
Back in 2007, Shilpa Shetty Kundra was embroiled in a controversy after Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed her onstage at a charity event in New Delhi. A complaint was registered against the actress at Alwar Police station. The complainant had alleged that Shilpa did not protest while being kissed by the Hollywood star. Now, as per the latest development, in this case, Shilpa has sought dismissal of the plea-challenging the magistrate's order of discharging her in an 'obscenity' case.

Reportedly, the actress through her lawyer Prasant Patil has asked the court to reject the plea which challenges the January order of a Ballard Pier, Mumbai, magistrate court. In April, police approached the sessions court against the magistrate's order and stated in its plea that the “magistrate had erred in discharging Shilpa and that her act in kissing or allowing to be kissed in a public place amounted to obscenity.” It is being reported that the police contended if the court examines the FIR, it would find that a prima facie case is made out against the actress. In her reply, Shilpa Shetty claimed to be the victim of malicious proceedings. She also alleged that she faced harassment at the hands of the complainant and that she as an artist had always acted responsibly in public. The actress also accused the complainant of approaching the court just for cheap publicity. The Dhadkan actress in her defense had earlier stated that just because she did not protest while being kissed on the stage by Richard did not make her a "conspirator or perpetrator of any crime."

On the work front, Shilpa recently made her comeback to films with Sabbir Khan’s directorial Nikamma. She will next be seen in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop drama which will revolve around Indian Police Force. The show also stars Sidharth Malhotra and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles.
