Sanjay Dutt's Pardon Plea Rejected
Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao has rejected Sanjay Dutt's plea for pardon in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts Case.

In 2013, former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju had filed a petition seeking waiver for the actor, who is due to be released in February next year.

Sanjay is currently out on parole for his daughter's surgery and will soon return to Pune's Yerawada prison.

The Governor rejected the plea following the Home Department's advice. The department was not in favour of granting pardon to Sanjay as he had been convicted by the Supreme Court in 2013.

Such a move will set a bad precedent, the department officials said.

The 56-year-old actor was found guilty of acquiring illegal weapons from those involved in the 1993 Mumbai attacks, which had killed 257 people and left hundreds injured.
