Shah Rukh Khan Gets Supreme Court Relief As Plea Against Mannat's Two-Floor Expansion Is Dismissed

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has received a major legal relief after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance granted for the addition of two new floors to his iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat. The verdict clears the way for the actor to proceed with the planned expansion of his sea-facing Bandra bungalow.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V Mohana refused to interfere with the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) September 2025 order, which had already upheld the CRZ clearance issued by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA).

During the hearing, the Supreme Court questioned the intent behind the petition and remarked that if homeowners wish to make additions to their residence while complying with the law, there is little reason for others to object. The bench observed, "They are living there. If in a residential house they want to have (additional floors)... it's their choice. The law is broadly followed. Why should a neighbour or anybody else intervene?"

The petition was filed by Mumbai-based activist Santosh Daundkar, whose counsel argued that the matter should not be treated differently because it involved a celebrity. The plea alleged irregularities in the CRZ approval granted for the renovation and expansion of Mannat. However, both the NGT and the Supreme Court found no procedural or legal flaws in the clearance granted by the MCZMA.

With the apex court dismissing the appeal, Shah Rukh Khan's CRZ clearance remains valid, allowing the long-awaited renovation project at Mannat, including the construction of two additional floors, to move forward without further legal hurdles.
