Bollywood singer Sona Mahapatra is quite popular for often being vocal about her fiery opinions on feminism. It all started when Bollywood was hit by the #MeToo movement, during which Sona had opened a can of worms. She had alleged singers like Anu Malik and Kailash Kher of sexual harassment. Well, she continues to remain unfazed even today and makes it a point to give a befitting response to all those who feed her social media with negativity and trolls.
Recently, taking to her Twitter account, Sona recalled getting sexually harassed during her college days, under the hashtag #INeverAskedForIt. The singer revealed how she was advised to wear a dupatta and cover herself in front of her classmates. In her tweet, she also urged all her followers to reveal what they wore while going through a similar situation. “During my BTech Engg, walking to the microprocessor lab in a loose khadi green kurta with a salwar.Seniors whistling, speculating loudly about my bra size. One ‘well wisher’ walked up & asked why I wasn’t wearing my dupatta ‘properly’, fully covering my ‘boobs’. #INeverAskForIt,” tweeted the singer.

In a recent interview with HT, the singer opened up on paying the price for supporting the #MeToo movement. “I feel that when you end up losing some work because of what you stand for and what you believe in, it is the kind of work you are anyway never meant to do. The kind of work that comes your way, the allies and friends that come your way are the ones that take you much further, and you end up doing the kind of work that makes you really proud. So, in the long run, I have never really seen any huge downside of being myself,” said Sona Mohapatra.
