Sonam Kapoor's father-in-law's firm was duped of over Rs 27 crore
It is reported that Sonam Kapoor's father-in-law Harish Ahuja's import-export film has been duped of over Rs 27 Crore in cyber fraud. The Faridabad police busted a gang of highly-sophisticated cybercriminals. According to multiple media reports, the accused were duping Sonam Kapoor's father-in-law's Faridabad firm, Shahi Export Factory by misappropriating the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (ROSCTL) licenses. They forged Ahuja's Digital Signature Certificate.
Faridabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Nitish Agarwal said the government gives some incentives to export firms in the form of ROSCTL licenses, entitling them to some rebate in the excise and customs duties.
The ROSCTL licenses are similar to digital coupons worth several lakh rupees. The reports further suggested that the fraudsters had secured around 154 ROSCTL licenses which were worth Rs 27.61 crore of Ahuja's firm. As per reports, the fraudsters were transferring ROSCTL licenses to fake firms and later enchasing them. Nitish Agarwal also stated that the accused also included former clerks and employees of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade who are well aware of the technicalities of the authority. DCP Agarwal further said that they were silently working on the case after Ahuja's firm lodged a complaint in July last year. Since then, a total of nine accused have been arrested from different countries including Chennai, Mumbai and Karnataka.
For the uninitiated, Sonam got married to Anand Ahuja in 2018. Anand runs a fashion brand and also works as a director in his father Harish's company. Sonam and Anand are active on social media. The couple's Instagram posts give fans a glimpse into their life.
