Sushant Singh Rajput Death: Bombay HC Reserves Verdict On Rhea Chakraborty And Showik's Bail Applications
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has been investigating the drug angle in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, and had arrested Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty and others on drugs-related charges linked to Sushant’s death case. It has been about three weeks since they have been in jail, and their bail requests were heard by the Bombay High Court today.

Now, Rhea and Showik’s bail pleas were heard by the Bombay High Court today, and according to Live Law, the Court has reserved orders on their bail applications. Rhea was arrested by the NCB, reportedly on charges of procuring drugs for the late actor. Earlier, Rhea’s bail application had been rejected by a special court and she was remanded to a 14-day judicial custody which was later extended till October 6.

Times Of India reported that Rhea and Showik sought bail from the Bombay High Court saying that the ‘investigation is illegal for want of jurisdiction’. According to TOI, their counsel Satish Maneshinde said, “Based on the Supreme Court judgement transferring the (death) case to CBI, all future cases should also go to the CBI.” He said that under a 1988 gazette the CBI is empowered to investigate drug cases under the NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, NDTV reports that on Monday, the NCB opposed bail for Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik saying that they bought drugs not for their own use, but rather to supply them to Sushant Singh Rajput, which is a “more serious offence.” ALSO READ: Sushant Singh Rajput Death: AIIMS Forensic Report Suggests Possibility Of Murder, Suicide Unlikely; Ligature Mark Not Typical Of Suicide – Reports
