Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case takes a new turn, CBI to now retrieve the deleted social media posts and chats to analyze the late actor's case
Investigation in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case is yet to reach its closure. The actor who was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic left everyone shocked. The investigation got into picture money laundering issues and even drugs angle to it, now as per a report in Hindustan Times, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is planning to retrieve the deleted messages, posts and chats from the late actor’s social media accounts.
CBI has approached MLAT (mutual legal assistance treaty) located in California, USA, where Google and Facebook’s headquarter are, asking the giants to share the late actor’s deleted chats, emails and posts in order to analyze the data. The report carried a quote of an officer who refused to reveal his name, he said, “We don’t want to leave any loose ends before we finalise the case. We want to know if there are any particular deleted chats or posts which could be useful in the case.”
The investigation would take some more time as acquiring the required data from MLATs is said to be a time-consuming process.
Yet another officer who choose not to reveal his identity said, “Sending the request to the US is part of that exercise only as we don’t want to miss out on any aspect.”
Vikas Gupta, Senior Advocate who represented the late actor’s family, was seen praising this move of CBI for reaching out to Facebook and Google for further investigation. He said, “I am not surprised because they (CBI) want to do a thorough investigation before they finalise the case. Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh has filed a complaint against SSR’s alleged girlfriend Rhea Chakrabory with abetment of suicide charges. Later as the investigation took place when the involvement of the actor in some drug consumption came to light, the actress and her brother, Showik Chakraborty were put behind the bars by NCB.
