Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has come a long way in her career. She won the title of Miss Universe in 1994 when she was just 18, after which she went on being a part of several films. While we missed seeing the actress on screen for a decade, she made a comeback with the Disney+Hotstar web series Aarya, directed by Ram Madhvani. Her performance in Aarya is being lauded by most people on social media. The actress has had an interesting journey in Bollywood so far, and she has always had an identity of her own. An incident narrated by choreographer Ganesh Hegde sheds light on how Sushmita Sen commanded respect while shooting.
In an interview with Huff Post India, Ganesh Hegde, who worked with Sushmita Sen on the song Mehboob Mere in Fiza, recalled how Sushmita simply refused to dance or lip-sync to the song’s original lyrics. She particularly refused to sing a line, after which Anu Malik had to change the lyrics of that line. “There was a line that went ‘aa garmi le mere seene se (come feel the heat of my bosom)’ and she refused to sing it. She said, ‘I won’t just do it’,” Hegde said. Composer Anu Malik had to then change the lines to ‘aa narmi le mere aankhon se (bask in the softness of my eyes)’,” said Ganesh Hegde.
Ganesh Hegde also added how commanding that kind of respect back then was unheard of. Sushmita Sen’s sizzling dance in Mehboob Mere remains memorable even today, two decades later.
While Sushmita Sen is basking in the success of Aarya, the actress and director Ram Madhvani announced the second season of the web series during an Instagram live session.
