Thappad: Taapsee Pannu Starrer Declared Tax-Free In Madhya Pradesh, In Light Of Its Subject And Social Message
Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming film Thappad is only two days away from its release, and there’s a lot of hype around the film. The trailer had released a few weeks ago, and needless to say, Taapsee’s performance was stellar. However, it was the subject of the film and the social message that it puts forth, that made people sit up and take notice. The film sends out a strong message against domestic violence, an issue plaguing the nation, and one that needs to be highlighted.

Now, PTI reports that the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh has announced a three-month exemption from the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) to Thappad. According to the report, a top official of the Commercial Tax Department informed that the Anubhav Sinha directorial has been exempted from the tax in light of its subject and social message that the film Thappad sends out. Single screen cinemas, as well as multiplexes, will not be collecting SGST on the tickets of Thappad.

Earlier, even Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak, based on the real-life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, was declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh.

A few days ago, Union Minister and former actress, Smriti Irani had praised Thappad and tweeted that she may not "support the political ideology of the director or may disagree with some actors on some issues" but she will surely watch Taapsee's Thappad. The film also stars Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Kumud Mishra and Manav Kaul will hit theatres this Friday, on February 28.
