Universal Pictures To Produce Priyanka Chopra Jonas' Next- An Indian Wedding Comedy With Mindy Kaling

Here’s good news for all the fans of Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The Bajirao Mastani actress, who made her mark with Hollywood films like Baywatch and Isn’t It Romantic, is set to star alongside American actress Mindy Kaling for a new project. The two actresses will team up for a new film, based around a big fat Indian wedding. Universal Pictures is developing the film after winning an auction for a pitch by Kaling, Priyanka and Dan Goor,

A report in an International portal Deadline suggests, “Kaling has an option to direct this film. She will write it with Dan Goor, who is co-creator and exec producer of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He is producing with Kaling’s Kaling International, Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures, 3Arts’ Howard Klein and Goor. Klein produced Late Night and was an EP on The Office. It revolves around a big wedding in India and the ensuing culture clashes.”

Announcing her collaboration with Mindy, Priyanka Chopra too tweeted, “Two women with a passion for telling good stories, just got the green light to THEIR story THEIR way. So proud of this incredible partnership with @mindykaling and @djgoor! We are about to show you what it means to be modern, global, and  Indian. See you at the cinema!”

While Kaling posted, "My dream team is making a movie. Can't wait for this one."

Details of the pitch are being kept under wraps other than being described as Crazy Rich Asians meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It is likely to revolve around the culture clashes at a big wedding in India.
