Producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s elder brother Vir Chopra is no more. He passed away on July 5 due to COVID-19. Late Vir Chopra had worked on films like ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’ starring Sanjay Dutt, ‘Broken Horses’, ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ and ‘3 Idiots’ with filmmaker-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. According to a report in the Times of India, Vir Chopra had travelled to the Maldives amidst the pandemic. There, the producer got infected with the deadly virus, as per the report.
According to the report, Vir Chopra had returned to Mumbai, two days after he contracted the virus. The report mentioned that after two days, he landed in Mumbai and was rushed to H.N. Reliance hospital. As per the report, Chopra was kept under the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was at the hospital for 21 days after he was admitted. The report mentioned that Vir Chopra breathed his last on the evening of July 5 and he was cremated the next day.
Vir Chopra has been a great help to Vidhu Vinod Chopra over the years. As per the report, the late producer played the role of Vidhu’s “script doctor”. The report mentioned that during the scripting of the film ‘Parinda’, when Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared the first draft with his brother, Vir had loved the first half, but didn’t enjoy the second half. According to the report, VVC then went ahead and tweaked the script of the film, a cult classic now.
Vir Chopra has even worked as the creative producer on films like 'Mission Kashmir', ‘Kareeb’, ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari', 'Eklavya: The Royal Guard', and 'Parineeta'. He is survived by his wife, sound designer Namita Nayak Chopra and son, actor Abhay Chopra, also known as Vicky Chopra.
