Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Ram Setu has landed in legal trouble. BJP’s Member of Parliament Subramanian Swamy is not happy with the actor. He expressed his resentment on Twitter and said that he would sue the actor and the makers of the film for the 'falsification in the portrayal of the Ram Setu issue' in their film.
Subramanian Swamy tweeted, “The suit for compensation has been finalised by my associate Satya Sabharwal Adv. I am suing Akshay Kumar, actor & Karma Media for damages cause by falsification in portrayal of the Ram Setu issue in their film for release.” In another follow up tweet, he wrote, “If actor Akshay Kumar is a foreign citizen then we can ask he be arrested and evicted from his adopted country.”

For the unversed in 2007, the UPA government proposed a Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project to create a shipping route in the shallow strait between India and Sri Lanka. Under this project, 83.2 km long deep water channel was to be constructed by removing limestone should with extensive dredging to link Palk Strait with the Gulf of Mannar. Many of them opposed this route and Swamy was one of them. After that five alternate routes were presented to avoid damage to the shoals.
Meanwhile, in February, this year, Supreme Court considered the plea of Subramanian Swamy to declare Ram Setu a national heritage monument. Ram Setu is also known as Adam's bridge which is a chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island or Rameswaram Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. This bridge also has an emotional connection with Hindu mythology as it was constructed during the time of Ramayana by lord Rama to fight with Ravana.
