When Karan Johar-Kareena Kapoor Had A Massive FALLOUT; Actress Gave The Filmmaker A Royal Snub, Making Him Go 'How Dare She?'
Here's a throwback to when Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karan Johar had a huge tiff after she said no to his film, Kal Ho Naa Ho and the filmmaker was unhappy
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karan Johar are among one of the most adorable BFF jodis that Bollywood has ever produced. The duo gets along because of their common love for gossiping, fashion and drama. They have also collaborated for a streak of super-hit films. However, there was a time when Kareena and Karan had huge fallout, resulting in them not talking for over a year. It all happened when the filmmaker was casting for Kal Ho Naa Ho, for which he had approached Kareena before Preity Zinta. However, it never happened because Bebo demanded a huge sum for her role, equivalent to that of Shah Rukh Khan. This didn't go down well with KJo and he was hurt.
The Takht filmmaker opened up on their fight and the eventual patch-up in his memoir, An Unsuitable Boy. He wrote, "She asked for too much money and we had some kind of a fallout at that time,” adding that she wasn't also sure about Nikkhil Advani’s ability to deliver at the box-office. "The weekend of Mujhse Dosti Karoge’s release, I offered her Kal Ho Naa Ho, and she asked for the same (amount of) money that Shah Rukh Khan was getting. I said, ‘Sorry’. I was very hurt. I told my father, ‘Leave that negotiation room’ and I called her. She didn’t take my call, and I said, ‘We’re not taking her.’ And signed Preity Zinta instead," he added.
KJo further wrote, "Kareena and I didn’t speak to each other for almost a year. For a year, we looked through each other at parties. It was very idiotic. She was a kid; she’s a decade younger than me."
A year later, the filmmaker tried to mend ways with the actress at an event but she paid no heed. He continued, “Then came a function, organized by the police, where I saw Kareena and gave her a semi-smile, but she looked away and so I looked away too. I thought, how dare she behave like this with me?”
It was during the filming of Kal Ho Naa Ho that Karan and Kareena patched-up after the latter got to know about his father Yash Johar's cancer diagnosis. Kareena got in touch with Karan and they buried the hatchet.
