When Maanayata Dutt Hit Back On Being Rejected: ‘A Prostitute Or Princess-A Wife Has Rights In Her Husband’s Home'

Sanjay Dutt and his wife Maanayata Dutt tied the knot in February 2008, and the two have seen many ups and downs over the years. Maanayata stood like a rock during Sanjay Dutt’s difficult times, however, at first, it wasn’t easy for her as Sanjay Dutt’s sisters Priya and Namrata Dutt found it difficult to accept her. While things are fine between all of them now, it wasn’t always the case. In an old interview from more than a decade ago, Maanayata Dutt had opened up about being unable to find acceptance with Sanjay Dutt’s sisters, and how Sanjay’s ‘fair-weathered’ friends hated her.
Speaking about all those who questioned her for taking over Sanjay’s life, Maanayata Dutt, in a 2009 interview with IANS had said, “I know, but what I want to say is that I have the right to live with my husband the way I want to. It doesn't matter whether it's a prostitute or a princess, a wife has certain rights in her husband's home. I'm not a man living in a woman's house." Further opening up about her equation with Dutt’s sisters then, she said, “Sanju knows I've tried to do as much in my capacity to find acceptance with his sisters. Beyond that, he wouldn't like me to push myself to try any further. Neither would I."
She also revealed that Sanjay Dutt doesn’t have a huge bank balance, not because he didn’t earn money, he did, but lost all of it. “There were too many people around him trying to use him. I came like a barricade in Sanju's life to stand between him and those who want to use him. Naturally, these fair-weather friends resent me. I spoilt their party, you see".
It has been over a decade now, and Sanjay Dutt and Maanayata Dutt are still very much in love. Sanjay Dutt has a daughter Trishala from his first marriage and two kids Shahraan and Iqra with Maanayata Dutt.
