When Rajesh Khanna Wanted His GF Anju Mahendroo To Fall At His FEET Like Other Female Fans; Actress Left Her Career For Him

Rajesh Khanna was the first superstar of India and was one of the pioneer actors of Indian cinema. The late actor enjoyed a huge fandom worldwide when he was at the peak of his career. His female fans used to put sand in their maang, and even people worshipped the actor like a God. But did you know Rajesh Khanna had once asked his then-girlfriend Anju Mahendroo to fall at his feet just like other female fans? Yes, you read that right!
Anju made this shocking revelation in Yasser Usman’s book ‘Rajesh Khanna: The Untold Story of India's First Superstar.’ The book was based on the life of the late actor and was published in 2014. In one of the chapters, Anju had revealed Rajesh wanted her to fall at his feet but she was not ready to do this. The model said, “He wanted me to fuss over him like all those others who are perpetually falling at his feet. I loved him. I couldn’t fawn over him. To me, he was Jatin or Justin. Anju Mahendroo also revealed she sacrificed her career for Rajesh as he didn’t want her to have her own individuality as an actor in the industry. Recalling how she gave up on her career, she revealed in the book, “As much as I could, I had submerged my individuality, my personality, my identity into his – to make him happy. He wanted me to give up modelling at a time when I was paid very highly. I did.”
Rajesh and Anju were reportedly in a serious relationship and they stayed in a live-in relationship for 7 long years. Later, the actor got married to Dimple Kapadia in 1973. But they got separated in 1982 after Dimple left her acting career for him. For the unversed, Rajesh Khanna died on 18 July 2012, after a period of prolonged illness.
