Will Actresses Ever Get Paid The Same As Actors In Bollywood?

So lately, Bollywood has been buzzing about women-oriented films. Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Piku, NH10, Mary Komthe list goes on.

Frankly, it’s obvious that actresses like Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra have been killing it. And it was all because they knew they had to make themselves more relevant in otherwise hero-led films.

Remember how Priyanka had said in a recent interview to SpotboyE.com: “When I joined films, I remember one producer had told me, ‘If you dont have dates, well take some other actress. If she is also not available, well cast a third actress. Actresses toh interchangeable hoti hai na. So that was how producers perceived actresses. Since then, with every film, I have only tried to make the actress more relevant to the film.”

Shes succeeded in doing that and how!

Their films are raking in moolah at the box-office, but is it positively affecting their remuneration? Not really.

Check out this disparity for the failed Bombay Velvet, Anushka received Rs. 4 crore where as Ranbir got a whopping Rs. 32 crore. Eight times the amount. And like we told you, Anushka still hasnt seen the pending amount of Rs. 1.5 crore. Lets not forget that Ranbir had two flops before Bombay Velvet whereas Anushkas NH10 got great reviews.

Deepika charges Rs. 6-7 crore and now Kangana is asking for Rs. 10 crore.

However, there might be a slight chance that the disparity might be lessened. With Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan slashing their prices, the heroines rates might just be closer to what the guys are charging. However, its not so much about the money as its about respect and equality.

Deepika told SpotboyE.com at a recent event, All we are looking for is equality in every way, whether its the kind of films that we get or the kind of money that we make. I think were headed in the right direction. Good scripts and women-oriented parts are a good beginning.

Touch.
