Will Akshay Kumar's Good Newwz Eat Into Salman Khan's Dabangg 3? 'Depends On Content, But Day 1 Might Be 30 Cr Plus'- EXCLUSIVE
Will Akshay Kumar's Good Newwz hitting theatres on Dec 27 eat into Salman Khan's Dabangg 3 which releases on Dec 20? Read what the experts feel
It's a big day on Friday. Salman Khan is coming back after a few films which didn't set the cash registers ringing as loudly as he expected and wanted. Now, Dabangg 3 will definitely be watched with bated breath on how it fares in totality. Mind you, Akshay Kumar's Good Newwz is just one week away and the trailer has created enough positive reviews. The question that comes to mind is: Will the arrival of Good Newwz on Dec 27 have an impact on Salman's film (Dec 20)?
"Not really," says trade analyst Amod Mehra. "It's nearly a longish weekend, with Christmas on Wednesday. Friday and Saturday should be invariably good. Then, it all depends on how the public accepts Dabangg 3. If it is lapped up, it will be unstoppable. If it doesn't, then of course, Good Newwz will impact it. I think the film will register anything between Rs 25-30 cr in the fist week. Aur, 200 cr to bana legi. Aage ka aage hi pata chalega."
However, Mehra quickly adds that the Salman film is coming with a very expensive ticket. "I have heard that the prices are inordinately high. This should not have been the case as it might act as a deterrent."
Another trade analyst Taran Adarsh says that Good Newwz might end up getting more theatres than it has on its plate now, if Dabangg 3 fails to hit the bull's eye. "You see, screens are allocated based on performance," then adds, "But frankly, I think Dabangg 3 should not worry. A Salman Khan film on any day/date is a festival and celebration in itself. Mujhe lagta hai that Dabangg 3 will garner between Rs 33-37 crore on Day 1."

Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi also feels that the merit/demerit of Dabangg 3 will decide its fate, irrespective of Good Newwz breathing down its neck. Rathi too estimates the Day 1 collection of Salman's upcoming starrer to be in the vicinity of 30 cr. "30ish," he quips.
We are sure Salman will not sleep a wink for the next 48 hours. Human nature, we don't blame him!
While Dabangg 3 also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Saiee Manjrekar and Warina Hussain, Good Newwz also has Kareena Kapoor, Kiarra Advani and Diljit Dosanjh.
