Yami Gautam has been a popular actress in Bollywood and has given some remarkable performances. After appearing in several commercials, she carved her way into Bollywood with 'Vicky Donor' along with Ayushmann Khurrana. Yami has marked a successful ten years in the film industry.  In a recent interview, she opened up about being typecast for certain roles and revealed she wasn’t offered diverse characters. Speaking with News 18, she shared that she was only offered specific roles in the movies and didn’t get to play diverse characters.

She also added that her husband- director Aditya Dhar offered her to play an undercover R&AW agent in ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ with Vicky Kaushal and Mohit Raina which opened doors for her. Yami was quoted saying, “More than advice, it’s a discussion. I have a habit of discussing with people I’m close with I still do that with my mom, my dad, and of course, Aditya and I really value his perspective. He has a mind, which is full of brilliant ideas and some really unique perspectives. He cast me in a film at a time when no one saw me pulling it off even though I made my debut with a film like Vicky Donor.”

“I was only being offered certain types of roles, but he cast me in a different character. That same year (2019), Bala happened. So he’s someone who has a mind like that and he will never go the cliche way. He will always like to break what he’s already done and move on and have a totally different outlook. So it’s about exchanging ideas and then based on those, you make your own decision,” the Dasvi actress further added.

If we talk about Yami’s journey after URI, she played ‘Pari’  in ‘Bala’, who was self-centered. She then played a rape victim who was out for revenge in ‘A  Thursday’ along with Neha Dhupia and Atul Kulkarni. And recently she played a strict jailer in ‘Dasvi’ with Abishek Bachchan and Nimrat Kaur. Her characters in ‘A Thursday’ and ‘Dasvi’ were critically acclaimed.

Yami will next be seen in the upcoming film 'OMG 2- Oh My God 2' which also stars Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Arun Govil. It is the sequel to 2012 OMG – Oh My God!

On the personal front, she got married to the URI director Aditya Dhar in 2021 in presence of close friends and family.
