Yami Gautam Talks About Her Fairness Cream Controversy, Says Trolls Upset Her Initially
It has been a hot topic of discussion for years - whether celebrities should be the brand ambassadors of fairness creams or not! Yami Gautam, who has always been on the receiving ends of the trolls for promoting a fairness brand, recently shared her thoughts on the controversy and the backlash she received for promoting fair skin. She said that the trolling initially affected her emotionally and she did not know how to handle the situation. However, for her, all colours are beautiful and that 'showing not being fair is something to be unhappy about, that's not right.'

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Yami touched on this topic and said that post Vicky Donor, when she became a star overnight, she did have a meeting with the brand owners and expressed her concerns about promoting fair skin. She said,"I told them, forget being a brand ambassador, the fact is that you can promote the brand but to show that not being fair is something to be unhappy about, that’s not right."

She also spoke about how the concepts of the advertisements have changed as she was quoted saying, "The kinds of ads which were made earlier, thankfully they are not there anymore. But the brand has been there even before I was born. It is the word, the name which has still retained since that time. But the concepts have changed and now we don’t have four faces."

Yami Gautam is soon to be seen in Bala alongside Ayushamann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. This film too is mired in many controversies, one being that of Bhumi portraying a character who has dark skin.
