War, Movie Review: Bar High In This Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff Chase And Chess
Four

First things first. Hrithik Roshan did a very wise thing by insisting (to director Siddharth Anand or producer Aditya Chopra?) that Tiger Shroff should be cast in War. Jackie and Ayesha Shroff's son has not floundered as he did on a few previous occasions in his career till date. Rising above expectations, in fact, this young man does not let even one scene down whether he's standing with or without the super-talented Hrithik in the frame.

Anand can put his head on the pillow tonight and have a better sleep than he has had in the last few years. War is a well-made film, high on style and importantly, substance. Starts off a bit disappointingly with few weak lines, but the dialogue writer Abbas Tyrewala's ink soon begins to flow once Tiger joins Team Hrithik.

war

It would be unfair to give away the motive of this team because their journey is laden with several twists and turns. The underlying dialogue of the film (let me not give even that way) is based on the game of chess and it is in fact this line that unfurls the deeply embedded suspenseful-filled layers in the story. Yes, suspense, and dollops of it.

As for Hrithik himself, is he the most handsome looking man in Bollywood? Please don't wage a war over this and no harm if you write in your choice (Read: reply) to us, but it's time yet again to stand up to this man who adds a barrel of talent to make War what it is.

Vaani Kapoor has an important role but extremely short. This lady has held on to Yash Raj. The production house should give her more opportunities. She was fine in Shuddh Desi Romance and Befikre in whatever she was asked to do.

Just one word for Ashutosh Rana: Brilliant. Take the same word for Anupriya Goenka, who is not just pretty.

The Arctic Circle climax is the icing on the cake, where the game of chess ends. It all ends in Sydney, but leaves an open end which makes it clear that Aditya Chopra is nursing a desire to turn War into a franchise a la Dhoom.

The only drawback in the film is its length. This intriguing game of chess and chase should have been trimmed by half of half-hour. But maybe when you spend so much of money (the canvas is massive), you can't justify (Right, Anand?) the chopping.

war

Okay not just the length, sorry for the word 'only', how can I forget that the music- neither the Jai Jai Shivshankar nor the Ghungroo number- does not stay with you? Same old problem maano ya naa maano- IF today's songs stay with you, you can sing only one or two lines of most of them. Wanna know the score of the background score? 6 on 10. Also... also... also... few dialogues are not totally coherent, wonder why this aspect was allowed to cross the check-naka.

Still, War, with a shortish first-half and a longish second, should be on your bucket list. War, in general, is ill-advised but not this Hrithik-Tiger one! It's a full-on entertainer.

Aur haan, I have a quick question for Soni Razdan before ceasefire: Why is Mrs Mahesh Bhatt doing 1 or 2-scene roles? Playing Tiger's mother in War is akin to playing Alia's in Raazi.

Going with FOUR.
