‘I Am Shah Rukh’: Fans Angry As Foreign Media Fails To Recognize SRK At Met Gala 2025, Asks ‘Who Are You?’
At the Met Gala 2025, Shah Rukh Khan made a historic debut as the first Indian male actor to walk the red carpet at the prestigious fashion event. Dressed in a stunning black ensemble designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Shah Rukh’s look featured multiple gold chains and a bold ‘K’ pendant, a tribute to his iconic title, ‘King Khan.’

The actor’s outfit and regal presence drew widespread admiration across social media, with fans praising his elegant entry into the international fashion spotlight. However, a surprising moment unfolded on the red carpet when some international reporters appeared to not recognize Shah Rukh Khan. This led to an awkward situation that was caught on video and quickly circulated online, sparking conversations about cultural ignorance and lack of awareness regarding global celebrities at major international events.

The incident reminded many of a similar situation in 2019 when actress Deepika Padukone was mistaken for Priyanka Chopra by reporters at the Met Gala. Deepika had then highlighted the need for better representation and understanding of South Asian figures in global media.

Sabyasachi had teased the collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan before the event through cryptic social media posts using phrases like “KING KHAN” and “BENGAL TIGER,” along with visuals of the Royal Bengal Tiger — a symbol associated with his brand.

These hints were later reflected in the powerful, culturally rooted design worn by Shah Rukh at the event. Despite the momentary red carpet confusion, Shah Rukh Khan’s appearance was hailed as a monumental moment, representing the growing presence of Indian cinema on the global stage. His debut at the Met Gala added yet another milestone to his career and opened up conversations about the importance of diversity and cultural recognition at international platforms.
