We wondered with India acing up its digital presence so well over the years, if a Bollywood version of Gossip Girl had to be made, who could possibly play these two besties

If you are a sucker for HBO's super-duper successful show, Gossip Girl, then the news of the show coming back with its reboot version would have instantly called for popping champagne. So, it’s time for Upper East Siders to rise and shine and get grooving as Gossip Girl 2.0 springs back in action.

However, this article is not about announcing the comeback of the show which took the fashion world in West to an all new level. Young girls started aping Serena and Blair’s style statement with a snap of fingers. The show, changed the fashion game for good in the West, 10 years back. And now it’s returning, probably to set some new trends.

Cut to Bollywood, and we know how our divas have evolved the style game and efficiently so, back home too. We have been giving hard competition to the ladies in West, since quite some time. So, when I heard about a reboot of Gossip Girl is on its way, what struck me instantly was- What if we had Serena and Blair, in Bollywood too?

And guess what? Who can justify their roles better than Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt? Move over the fact that they share a common past, which ironically in the show too, Serena and Blair did for a brief time.

Deepika Padukone as Serena would totally kill it. The actress has Serena’s knack of style, demure and looks that could kill. Tall and slender, a hopeless romantic- don’t these adjectives go so well with Deepika? Imagine Dippy in those blingy jackets, colour-blocked trench coats, to-die-for heels, leggings with structured blazers and what not- Padukone can actually set a new game altogether with her taste in fashion. We all know how well she portrayed Veronica in Cocktail- a character bearing remote resemblance to Serena, in a few ways.

And who better than Alia Bhatt to look as innocent and sharp like Blair? The actress has proven her versatility, and if there is someone who has the ability to portray that child-like quality of Blair on-screen, it has to be Alia. Imagine Bhatt in quirky headbands, elaborate tulles, the ultra feminine silhouettes, chic stockings and then speaking her mind strongly- a deadly combination Alia can easily deliver.
