The Met Gala, which is fashion’s biggest night, was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, but this year the much loved gala is back with a bang. Met Gala 2021's costume theme was "American independence" and it saw some breathtaking couture as celebrities gathered on the red carpet and ascended the hallowed steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Co-chair Billie Eilish (the youngest co-chair in the gala's history) surprised everyone looking like a 'belle at the ball' in a breathtakingly gorgeous custom-made gown designed by Oscar de la Renta. The 'Bad Guy' singer looked magical in a peach-colored tulle corset gown that had a enormous skirt with a lengthy 15-foot train.
Oscar de la Renta's official Instagram account posted a picture of the young Grammy-award winning artist and captioned it as, 'Blushing. @billieeilish is a dream in diaphanous layers of tulle and a fit-to-perfection corset bodice. #odlrredcarpet #metgala'. The bodice was totally reminiscent of old Hollywood fashion, which cascaded into a blush ombré skirt and train.
Billie channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe with her beautifully styled short blonde bob, which also went well with this year's American theme. She posted a series of pictures on her Instagram in this iconic gown and captioned it as, 'unforgettable'.
The gorgeous Cartier jewelry, the old Hollywood-esque bob and the nude princess gown were a sure winner on the red-carpet and made her one of the best-dressed celebs in this year's Met Gala. The 19-year-old star, who is a vegan, even convinced designer Oscar de la Renta to go completely fur-free before she stepped on to the red carpet. She wrote on her Instagram. 'thank you @oscardelarenta for designing this BEAUTIFUL dress and bringing my ideas and vision to life. it was an honor to wear this dress knowing that going forward oscar de la renta will be completely fur-free!!!!'
As far as her make-up was concerned, her the subtle feline eye look along with hints of mascara, really stood out. The lips were a beautiful raspberry-toned nude hue.
This whole 'princess-y' look is a far cry from the teen singer's signature goth style and goes on to show how far she has come when it comes to her personal style. What did you think of this look?
