LOOKING BACK: Songs That Got The Nation Grooving In 2016

2016 gave us some of the most soothing melodies, which will not be forgotten for the long time. As the year draws to a close, let’s take a look at the melodies which dominated the charts.

Yeh Fitoor Mera (Fitoor)

Fitoor might have not managed to live up to expectations, but the title track, Yeh Fitoor Mera struck a chord with the audiences. Sung by Arijit Singh, composed by Amit Trivedi and written by Swanand Kirkire, the track stands out for its picturisation.

Sanam Re (Sanam Re)


The successful combination of Mithoon as composer and lyricist and Arijit Singh as singer (the two earlier worked on Aashiqui 2’s music album) proved to be a winner, yet again. Add to that Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam’s moves in ethereal locations. The title track of Sanam Re turned out to be a winner all the way. 

Kar Gayi Chul (Kapoor & Sons)

There is little doubt that Kar Gayi Chul from Kapoor & Sons has not been played at clubs and events during the year. This peppy song featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt is the newer version of the famous song Chul by Badshah. Kar Gayi Chul has been sung by Badshah, Fazilpuria, Sukriti Kakar and Neha Kakkar and climbed the music charts rapidly.

Salamat (Sarbjit)


Singers Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar weave magic with Salamat from Sarbjit. Composed by Amaal Mallik and written by Rashmi Virag, the soulful melody, has romance written all over it. The track features Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha.

Ji Huzoori (Ki & Ka)


The poignant lyrics by Saeed Quadri make Ji Huzoori one of the most soulful numbers of the year. The fresh vibe of the track grows on you. The song is sung and composed by Mithoon with Deepali Saathe taking charge of female vocals.

Tere Sang Yara (Rustom)


Admit it. You fell in love with Atif Aslam’s soothing voice the moment the makers released the song. The romantic song is penned by Manoj Muntashir and composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee.  

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil)


If there is one track that successfully captures the beauty of unrequited love, it’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The title track of the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai starrer Ae Dil Hai is one of the most successful tracks by music director Pritam. The superhit number has been crooned by Arijit Singh, while Amitabh Bhattacharya has penned the lyrics.

Jag Ghoomeya (Sultan)

This track from Sultan stirred a lot of controversies. The song was initially sung by Arijit Singh. However, Salman later got it redubbed in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice. Nonetheless, Jag Ghoomeya, for its earnestness, tugged at our heartstrings.

Kaun Tujhe (M.S Dhoni – The Untold Story)


Beautifully sung by Palak Muchhal, Kaun Tujhe tells the love story of MS Dhoni and his late girlfriend, Priyanka Jha. A hummable number, it’s sure to find a mention when one talks about the most popular songs of 2016, The music of the track has been composed by Amaal Mallik and lyrics have been penned by Manoj Muntashir.

Kala Chashma (Baar Baar Dekho)


Baar Baar Dekho failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box-office but Kala Chashma became an instant sensation. The catchy beats, make it a perfect party number. The song has been recreated by Badshah, and crooned by Amar Arshi, Badshah and Neha Kakkar.
