5 reasons you should catch Ghostbusters in the theatres

Ghostbusters, starring an all-female titular cast of Mellisa McCarthey, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones hits the theatres this week. While we have already reviewed the film, we list 5 reasons why you should definitely catch the film in the theatres

#1 The ‘80s references
Ghostbusters loves its ‘80s roots and brings it to the fore in several spots in the film. The Jaws reference, the Patrick Swayze reference and others such are a welcome retro-thought and succeed in making the film a breezy, cheerful experience.

#2 The crackling chemistry among the Ghostbusters
Ensemble cast films sometimes crumble under the weight of the huge cast - but not Ghostbusters. Mellisa McCarthey holds the fort with Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones works as a great foil. It’s Kate McKinnon’s character that we loved the most. She’s one of the boys – or at least her T-shirt proclaims so.

#3 The beauty of camp
Not the greatest of storylines – in fact this is a script that could be taken right out of a 80s comic book, and that’s the beauty of the film. Director Paul Feig has given us a no-holds-barred sci-fi/adventure film that can reveal its true beauty only on the big screen. And that brings us to the 4th point.

#4 The VFX
Ever thought that a 80s franchise could have been done much better if they had the technology that we have today? Well, Ghostbusters proves that point. Beautiful fight scenes where protagonists light up larger-than-life ghosts in a background full of the devastation that the ghosts have caused. It doesn’t get better than this.

#5 The positive story
Ghostbusters is a very entertaining film with great messages that are relevant today. This is a film that tells you subtly that standing out of the crowd is not a crime, following what you really, really want to do is not wrong and at the end of it all, true friends are all that matter.

Ghostbusters hits theatres on
July 29. Make sure you catch the excitement there.
