As per a recent development in the Harvey Weinstein case, an agreement has been reached to a settlement of around $19 million in two sexual misconduct lawsuits filed on behalf of multiple survivors against former Hollywood mogul and currently imprisoned Harvey, revealed the attorneys. The settlement, however, is yet to be approved by a federal judge and a bankruptcy court. It would further resolve 2018 lawsuit filed against the veteran filmmaker, his production company and his brother by the New York Attorney General's office.
This settlement is also likely to conclude a separate class-action lawsuit, filed in 2017, on behalf of nine women that had accused Harvey of sexual harassment or assault, said Letitia James, the New York Attorney General. Taking to Twitter, James shared, "After all the harassment, threats, and discrimination, these survivors are finally receiving some semblance of justice." She revealed that the deal would also release several women from non-disclosure agreements that stopped them from speaking publicly about Harvey Weinstein, who was once regarded among one of the most powerful men of Hollywood.
On the contrary, the lawyers who are representing six of Harvey's sexual misconduct survivors have termed the proposed deal a 'complete sellout' that didn't require Harvey to accept responsibility or pay from his own pocket.
As per reports, a fund will be launched for the payout from the money that will come through insurance as a part of a settlement resolving civil lawsuits, which also includes a proposed class action against the 68 years old filmmaker.
