Chloé Zhao uses #Eternals to create a sci-fi EPIC that reflects her sensibilities (and eye for beautiful landscapes). It's emotional, focusing on the characters' relationships and disagreements while also raising questions about humanity and the purpose of our creation. pic.twitter.com/J52RCWfC3O— Eternals News (@UPDATESETERNALS) November 4, 2021
Marvel Studio's Eternals has been banned in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The publication was informed by sources that the gay relationship in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie may have been the reason behind it. Marvel studio is yet to comment or confirm the same.
In Chloe Zhao's directorial Eternals, Brian Tyree Henry's character Phastos, who is a weapon inventor and technology expert, is a gay man and shares a kiss in the movie with his husband Ben (played by actor Haaz Sleiman). For the uninitiated, this marks the first gay kiss in MCU.
According to the publication, edit requests were made by the local censors that Disney was not willing to make. The film was expected to be released across the Gulf on November 11. In the United Arab Emirates, the film is still listed as among the titles coming soon. The report further states that in the Arab world, movies containing sex, homosexuality and religious issues are cut so that they conform to censorship rules. But in this case, Disney was either unwilling, or more likely, unable to do that. Written by Chloe Zhao, the film has been in the news for a long time. Eternals features Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Lia McHugh, Barry Keoghan, Lauren Ridloff, Don Lee, Harish Patel, GoT's Kit Harrington and Gil Birmingham.
The film released in India today, November 5 and is receiving an amazing response. A fan tweeted, "Marvels #Eternals is masterpiece. The most visually stunning Marvel movie to date. The visuals, the acting, the score, the directing everything is perfect. Chloe Zhao made the most unique MCU movie to date. She deserves every praise."
