Met Gala 2021: Kim Kardashian Covers Entire Face In All-Black Outfit; Camila Cabello-Shawn Mendes Attend The Event As A Couple

The Met Gala 2021 has rolled out its red carpet in New York for some of the best-known celebrities. And although its famous guests must follow certain rules in the post Covid-world, including wearing masks indoors, that didn't stop any of them from going all out with their fashion choices.
This year's costume theme is "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," - so the looks were inspired by everything from the Matrix film franchise to the Statue of Liberty.
One of the most fascinating looks of the night came from Kim Kardashian. She literally covered her face and body in an all-enveloping black outfit. The custom design was devised by Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of fashion house Balenciaga. Kim's look spawned a series of memes on social media.
Kendall Jenner arrived without her boyfriend, Devin Booker. She wore a sheer gown embellished with glittering rhinestones for the night's American Fashion theme. According to Page Six, it was a look inspired by famed Givenchy muse Audrey Hepburn's dress, which she wore in My Fair Lady. "The dress also included the same jewel-embellished sleeves and a choker, minus the sheer factor," the report said.
Other members of the Jenner-Kardashian family were also present at the Met Gala. Kendall's mom and Kris Jenner arrived in all-black ensembles. Her pregnant sister Kylie Jenner, however, skipped the event.
Serena Williams grabbed attention in a Gucci bodysuit beneath a floor-length feather cape. A$AP Rocky and girlfriend Rihanna arrived fashionably late, sporting contrasting outfits.
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes debut as a couple on the red carpet. Camila Cabello wore a purple sparkly crop top and skirt, while Shawn Mendes opted for an open leather jacket and black pants.
One of fashion's biggest and starriest events, Met Gala is held to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
