Like every year, Oscars 2022 paid tribute to several film personalities and artistes who left for their heavenly abode last year through its In memoriam reel. Some great names were mentioned including Sidney Poitier, Ivan Reitman and Betty White. However, the Academy failed to pay tribute to legends Lata Mangeshkar and Dilip Kumar.
Several fans of the legendary stars took to Twitter to express their disappointment over Dilip Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar not being included in the In memoriam segment.
A fan wrote, "The amazing world-record-setting #LataMangeshkar (who passed away from Covid) sang more songs for more movies than shown in all Oscars combined. Yet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it to fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on..." Another one wrote, "I was actually expecting #LataMangeshkar to be mentioned in the #Oscars in Memoriam. But well..."
