Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese had recently made the headlines for his remarks on Marvel movies. In an interview with Empire Magazine, he had criticized Marvel films and had also added that while he tried watching the films, he just couldn’t. After his comment, he received criticism from several people and it also didn’t go down well with fans of MCU. Then, FRIENDS star Jennifer Aniston made a statement saying that Marvel Cinematic movies are ruining the movie-going experience and called it a ‘diminishing’ industry. Now, veteran actor Robert De Niro has jumped on the bandwagon.
Robert De Niro referred to MCU films as cartoony and called films extensively using computer technology as ‘another type of entertainment,’ while speaking at an LFF Screen Talk Session. Screendaily quoted Robert De Niro saying at the talk session, “The technological stuff can only go so far. It’s not going to change other things. If it does to such a point it becomes something that is not what a person is, what a human is. It can be another type of entertainment, like comic strip things, Marvel. The comic book character-type things, cartoony stuff.” He said this while answering a question from the audience about whether technological advances have changed his acting process. Robert De Niro has had a long career span in Hollywood of more than five decades. Throughout his career, he has been the recipient of several awards, which include two Academy Awards and a Golden Globe Award, AFI Life Achievement Award among many others.
