Remember Slumdog Millionaire’s Child Stars Rubina Ali And Azhar? 12 Years Later Here's What They Look Like
Slumdog Millionaire came out 12 years ago and swept almost every award there was to become the most successful movie that year. The rags to riches story had a huge Indian connection and portrayed how lives or fortunes changed for people coming from a humble background. Something similar can be said about the child actors in the movie who became overnight sensations throughout the world. Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail were the child actors playing the role of young Latika and Salim, respectively.

Both the child actors were selected from a huge group of over 300 slum children to portray the role in the movie. They lived in Garib Nagar, a slum in Bandra but rose to fame after the movie. Director Danny Boyle and film’s producer Christian Colson set up a trust called Jai Ho charitable trust to provide a better life for the kids and also provide them with flats to stay in under the trust, to be handed over to them after they turned 18.

It feels almost like a fairy tale of a story in real life as well for both Rubina and Azhar. But soon after, things took a turn and both of them. More on that, below. Meanwhile, we are sure you wanna know what they look like now. Check out some of their pictures below:

A few months ago, Mumbai Mirror had reported that Azhar ended up selling the Santacruz flat given to him by the trust and moving back into a 10x10 room in a slum in Naupada. The second time in slum apparently did not suit Azhar well enough post which his mother took him to their village in Jalna. Azhar, who lost his father due to tuberculosis mentioned that he had to sell the flat due to financial troubles. His mother talked about how Azhar had lost his way and stopped studying and started a business that didn’t last long. He also fell in bad company and started doing drugs. Rubina, on the other hand, had moved out of the house in Bandra and started living with her mother in Nallasopara. She had mentioned in an interview with Mumbai Mirror that she wanted to sell her Bandra flat where her father was living with her stepmother and their 5 kids, but couldn’t sell it as her father was suffering from tuberculosis and didn’t want him to leave homeless. On January 30, 2020 her father passed away due to tuberculosis. Rubina is currently pursuing her BA degree as well as studying fashion designing.

The story is no less than a script from a movie and has its twists and turns but here’s hoping that both these child stars end up doing well in the future.
