Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey is a known actor who has worked in many films across all genres from romance, comedy, legal drama, war drama, crime, and many more. After doing romantic comedies back to back he was established as a sex symbol. Recently he recalled that he was molested in his teens and mentioned that those past experiences would not ruin his future relationships.

Yes, you read right! Matthew McConaughey, when he was fifteen was blackmailed into having sex which he refused, and at the age of 18, he was molested by a man. The 'The Wedding Planner' actor in his autobiography, 'Greenlights' has shared these distressing incidents and the detailed conversations he had with his father that informed him that this was not how anyone should be treated, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
While speaking on 'The Conversation: About the Men' podcast, he shared the learning his parents had given to him on sexual intimacy and respect, "Well, I had been taught, been guided by my parents about respect for a woman, respect for the relationship, respect for sexual intimacy, respect for space.”

The 'Gold' star has mentioned that he hasn't taken therapy post suffering the trauma, however, the people around him have helped him deal with the trauma. The ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends’ actor was determined to never let the abuse and horrifying experience of his adolescence would hinder his future relationship. He was quoted saying, “I'm not gonna be afraid of relationships because my first experience was blackmail. Uh uh. That's an aberration. No, no. That's not the way it is. And if I go on - and I'm not gonna let it beat me. I'm going, 'I'm not gonna let that beat my sense of trust in people and say, 'No, I can have a healthy relationship.' Non-negotiable. No."

He further added,  “Happened. Am I denying that it happened? No. I'm not denying that it happened. Ugly. Ugh. I still get, even telling you this story, I get -- but am I gonna carry that? I chose, non-negotiably, I'm not going to carry that, bring that baggage into the life I'm going to lead, and how I treat people and how I trust people, and how I look at circumstances and the risk I may take."

The 52-year-old actor has given some award-winning performances. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2013 biopic Dallas Buyers Club for portraying a cowboy diagnosed with AIDS.
