Sofia Vergara Reveals She Was Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer At Age 28; 'My Doctor Felt A Lump In My Neck'

At a recent event, the 'Modern Family' star Sofia Vergara revealed that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28. She added that instead of panicking , she handled the shocking news by educating herself about the condition. She further said she was fortunate to have the support of her doctors and 'most importantly' her family members during her tough time.
During the 2021 Stand Up to Cancer event, Sofia shared her cancer story. She said, "At 28 years old during a routine doctor's visit, my doctor felt a lump in my neck. They did a lot of tests and finally told me I had thyroid cancer," he said.
She added, "When you're young and you hear that word "cancer", your mind goes to so many places but I tried not to panic and I decided to get educated. I read every book and found out everything I could about it. I was fortunate to have caught it early and to have the support of my doctors and most importantly my family." The actress said that she learned a lot during that time, not just about thyroid cancer but also that in times of crisis, 'we're better together'.
Even though the actress is now cancer-free, she remains conscious of the threat. "I get my blood levels checked every three to six months to make sure my thyroid levels are good. And of course after cancer, every time I cough or feel something I'm a little paranoid," said Sofia. The actress has been married to actor Joe Manganiello since 2015. For the unversed, she has a 29-year-old son, Manolo, with her ex-husband Joe Gonzalez.
