Over the years, filmmaker and actor Shekhar Suman impressed the audience with his versatile performances. He is currently over the moon as his character portrayal of Nawab Zulfikar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is being loved by the audience. Netizens have been taking to their social media platforms to heap praises on him. Now, he has opened up about one of the crucial scenes in the show where he is traveling in a carriage along with Manisha Koirala’s character Mallikajaan.
In the scene, that happens in the first episode, Nawab Zulfikar tries to make out and have oral sex with Mallikajaan, while being in an inebriated state. Drunk out of his wits he makes moves on her without realising that she is sitting in the opposite direction that he is facing. Talking about the shooting process of the scene, during an interveiw with Zoom, he explained that Bhansali wanted the nawab to get ‘fellatio mid-air.’ While discussing the scene, the director even told Suman that it would be fine if he didn’t want to perform it. However, the actor waved it off as such a scene hadn’t been done by anybody before. Recalling the shooting experience, the 61-year-old actor stated that after the shot was done in just one take, the technicians rushed to thank him for not dragging out the scene. Quoted by the Free Press Journal, he said, “I said, ‘In this life, nothing is too bizarre, I’ll do it’. And it was done, first take. Now, a drunken scene is difficult to perform, because you are either over or under. You can start hamming majestically. But somehow, I understood the tonality of it, the gravitas of it. So, I did it instinctively, and he came running and said, ‘Magnificent’. And it was pack-up after that.
