A few years ago, it was unimaginable for a Bollywood star to act in a web show. It was looked down upon and they were limited to acting in Bollywood films. But with the drastic change in landscape over the past few years, the web space has opened up more than ever. With creators realizing that there is an audience for every kind of content here, there is no stopping the infiltration of talent to the space. Here are a few Bollywood actors who have made a huge mark in the digital space.
1. Saif Ali Khan
The first of the Khans to cross the bridge to web content, Saif Ali Khan is indeed a path-breaking actor and has always been so. While his work in the web space is limited to only a single show, it is the biggest Indian web series yet, Sacred Games and he plays the lead character, Sartaj Singh.
2. Radhika Apte
Before Radhika Apte came to be known as a Netflix favourite, she had and continues to have a strong body of work in Bollywood. Whether it’s been films like Pad Man, Andhadhun or Parched, she is known for her unconventional roles. She brings the same flavor to the web space as well. Her performances in Netflix’s Sacred Games, Ghoul and Lust Stories have all been varied.
3. Pankaj Tripathi
Pankaj Tripathi was known as the actor who bought credibility to a movie. If he was in the film, the film was probably a good one. With stellar performances in films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Stree, Newton and lots more, Pankaj is now an Internet star too. Having starred in Hotstar’s Criminal Justice, Prime Video’s Mirzapur and more recently, Netflix’s Sacred Games, each performance is excellent.
4. Emraan Hashmi
Infamously known as Bollywood’s ‘serial kisser’, Emraan Hashmi has come a long way from that. With films as diverse as Murder and Shanghai under his belt, he has come to be known as an actor who makes brave choices. With the latest Netflix original series, Bard of Blood starring him and produced by Shah Rukh Khan just around the corner, we can’t wait to see what else is in store!
5. Manoj Bajpayee
National Award winner and Padma Shri recipient, Manoj Bajpayee is one of the Bollywood veterans. Having gained much acclaim for his roles in Satya, Zubeidaa, Gangs of Wasseypur and Aligarh among others, his debut in the web space is also just around the corner. We will be seeing him in Prime Video original, The Family Man soon!
