Break Point: Nitesh Tiwari Reveals How Leander Paes And Mahesh Bhupathi Opened Their Hearts Out After Fallout
Indian tennis legends Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi created history jointly and also, in their respective careers. Unlike any other friendship, the two witnessed several highs and lows which eventually led to a major fallout. Now, Paes and Bhupathi have set out to unravel their story of grit and determination which set them on the path of becoming perhaps India’s most celebrated tennis champs.

The upcoming web series Break Point on ZEE5 traces their journey. But more than that, it also reveals what made them break up, a question to which India is yet to get a clear answer. The series is set to premiere on October 1, 2021 on Zee 5. The documentary is helmed by Nitish Tiwari and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.

In a recent interview, Nitish revealed what inspired him and his wife, Ashwiny to make a documentary about Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. "The idea came from Vijay Subramaniam from Collective Artists Network Ltd. He kind of made the proposal of getting together with Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi for this. It is very rare that you get such an opportunity as a storyteller. We said yes very quickly," he told BollywoodLife.com.

He added that being mindful was the biggest challenge for them as storytellers. "What was also important was being cautious not to hurt Leander and Mahesh’s sentiments," the couple said.

Ashwiny said the two had to convince the Indian tennis legends that they were not judgmental, and as storytellers, they want to put forth their tale to the audience and fans.

The friction between Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi’s relationship turned a once iconic partnership sore. When asked how they managed to share their differences, Nitesh stated, "We had a very honest chat with the two to get their trust. We assured that we're telling the story from a neutral point of view and would take the opinions of everybody who crossed their paths. That was very comforting for them. They could open their hearts out freely."

While Nitesh is known for movies like Dangal and Chhichhore, Ashwiny has helmed Bareilly Ki Barfi, Nil Battey Sannata and Panga.
