There is nothing like an anthology of love stories. While the format has worked for several Hollywood and Bollywood films in the past, what first comes to mind is the modern classic, Love Actually. That might actually be your first association when you watch the trailer for the latest Amazon Prime Video original series, Modern Love.
Modern Love is an anthology of eight stories based on real-life stories. For years, the New York Times ran a column in their paper called ‘Modern Love’ which was a crowd-sourced essay column where readers wrote in about their experiences with love. Some of the nicest stories from the column have been curated to create the show Modern Love. The show boasts of an impressive cast including Dev Patel, Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andrew Scott, among others.
From the trailer, we can gauge that this is a show that will fill our heart with a lot of emotion, a show that we will laugh, smile and cry with. Dealing with various aspects of love and relationships like mental health, infidelity, a couple stuck in a boring marriage etc., Modern Love is sure to tell us a little more about our favourite subject in the world.
Not all love stories have a happily-ever-after ending and that’s the point of shows like Modern Love. With life in the 21st century being so dynamic, our relationships have become dynamic too. The point is not to paint a rosy picture of love, but to provide real insight. For those who are interested, Modern Love is also a famous podcast based on the same New York Times column.
