Sometime last year, Zee5 in its early days of entering the market, produced a musical show that never quite got its due. It’s a travel show and music show at the same time and unlike any other music reality show you might have seen. For most music reality shows, you might be accustomed to a panel of judges and contestants showing off their musical talent. Lockdown is nothing like that.
Stemming from a really unique concept, Lockdown pairs one big name from the Bollywood music industry and a digital music sensation. Not just that, the duos visit various parts of the country and the task is to come up with 2 tracks which are an amalgamation of both their music styles within a span of 24 hours. What makes them even more special is that these songs are covers of existing songs, and each artist manages to give their own special spin to them.
The best part about the show apart from the great musicians? The whole concept is quite interesting in itself because we finally get to see the method behind the magic. We as viewers get a little bit of an insight into their processes. Also the end result in the form of the music they create which is filmed in a music video is outstanding as well. The locales, the mood of the place they are in are also aptly added to give context to the music and local flavours of the particular place also lend to the music.
Some of our favourite episodes are Badshah-Jonita Gandhi, Kailash Kher-Raja Kumari and Raftaar-Thaikkudam Bridge. In particular, there is a super-catchy cover of the classic Tip Tip Barsa Pani, which is completely reimagined by Badshah and Jonita Gandhi. What is interesting also is that this show also marks Badshah’s debut as producer because his production house Afterhours co-produced Lockdown.
