It’s True, Made In Heaven Season 2 Is On Its Way!

One of our favourite shows from last year was, without a doubt, Made in Heaven on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Nitya Mehra, Alankrita Shrivastava and Prashant Nair, the show showed the sometimes grim, sometimes hilarious and always ridiculous underbelly of Indian weddings.

The Big Fat Indian Wedding has been a popular subject for films and television shows. Earlier explored beautifully in Monsoon Wedding, Band Baaja Baarat, Veere di Wedding etc., nothing speaks volumes about Indian culture like weddings do. But Made in Heaven was different. Although a tale told through the lens of two wedding planners, it explored the Indian wedding like never before. It critiqued our inner biases that were on full display during weddings and made us pause, sit up and think.

Fabulous performances, scintillating writing and exceptional story-telling were the cornerstones of Made In Heaven’s success. It also honed the craft of veteran actors like Jim Sarbh, Kalki Koechlin and brought to the spotlight infectious talent like Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur and the fantastic Shivani Raghuvanshi (you know her as Jazz from the show).

The show also explored themes like homosexuality and the complexities of a marriage beautifully. No corners were cut and no over-simplifications were made. At the end of it all, we as an audience were left rooting for Tara and Karan - two of the most human, flawed characters we’d seen on screen for a long, long time.

As soon as the credits started rolling, the Internet was ablaze with questions about Season 2. When was it going to be out? What happens next to Tara and Karan? And while the cast and crew gave no official statement for a long time, Zoya Akhtar announced in April that she’d begun writing the second season with her co-directors and long-time collaborator, Reema Kagti.

Today, Arjun Mathur’s Instagram post suggests that Made in Heaven Season 2 might be closer than we think. We can’t wait for what will be a stellar second season coming from some of the most talented minds in the country.
