While we’ve always loved our international favourites like Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais, there has been a storm of Indian talent as well. With a lot of audiences going for live shows and demanding this kind of content, we finally can boast of a good comedy scene in India. All these voices bring a fresh, unique voice that resonates with their audiences. Here are some of our favourite Indian specials.

1. Biswa Mast Aadmi – Biswa Kalyan Rath

Biswa Kalyan Rath happens to be the most effortlessly funny comedian out there. While others depend on great comedic material, Biswa’s way of speaking is enough to crack you up. An IIT graduate, Biswa has some of the most mind-bending observations on daily life which make for a great comedy special. Biswa Mast Aadmi is fun and smart at the same time, and he is absolutely right, Biswa is indeed a mast aadmi.

2. Losing It – Vir Das

Vir Das is arguably the biggest stand-up comic in India. He’s been around for a long time and he has a lot of international appeal as well – regularly touring all across the world. His Netflix special, Losing It, came out on December 2018. What might be Vir’s most personal work yet, the special touches quite a few topics without it ever rambling. Vir’s comedy strikes the balance between the personal and political and he is fearless, just like any comic should be.

3. Haq Se Single – Zakir Khan

Zakir Khan is indeed a special comedian. It seems like he knows his audience’s pulse more than anybody else. His success story culminated in a dedicated special on Amazon Prime Video. Haq Se Single is an anecdotal special, mostly about Zakir’s love life. He delves into his interactions with women in his classic self-deprecating style of humour. Zakir is indeed a ‘sakht launda’ and while his special is hilarious, Zakir himself is serious business.
