Star World To Go Off Air Post OTT Boom? Karan Johar's Koffee With Karan, MasterChef India To Stream Online: Reports
With a rapid rise in technology, there has been a massive evolution in all things digital. Well, that makes almost anything and everything available on the internet. This also includes all the OTT giants like Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime and Netflix. Earlier, these platforms were limited to already-released films, web shows, documentaries and originals. However, with the Coronavirus pandemic taking over the world and resulting into the indefinite shutdown of theatres among other public gathering places, filmmakers are now eyeing on these giants as a potential platform for all the new releases. Well, as if that wasn't enough, a couple of channels, including Star World, too, are reportedly shutting down. And its content is likely to shift on OTT.

As per a report in Mid Day, Star World - one of the most popular channels that majorly airs English content and is a crucial entity of the Star Network - is reportedly going off-air. It's also the parent channel to Karan Johar's popular talk show, Koffee With Karan. It is being speculated that all the famous shows that used to air on Star World will either be shifted to some other channel or they will be accessible on the OTT platform of Disney+ Hotstar. One of the reasons behind taking such step, as per Mid Day, is the channel's supremely low TRPs after the OTT boom in India.

A source said to the daily, "With many of Star World's international series available on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, the viewership had dropped considerably. Now that Disney has entered a joint venture with Star, changes are being made to the content slate. The top brass of Hotstar are in talks with the producers of Indian originals, including Koffee with Karan and MasterChef India."

"While the next season of Karan Johar's chat show is not slated until next year, the upcoming edition of the cooking reality show will stream directly on Disney+Hotstar. The suits at the streaming service are also initiating new tie-ups to bring more shows to the roster," continued the source.
