Binge Or Cringe: Barot House Review
When the Zee5 original, Barot House’s trailer dropped a few weeks ago, we could tell that it would be a thrilling ride. Starring one of our favourite actors, Amit Sadh and Manjari Phadnis in lead roles, the trailer was devastating and exciting at the same time.

The film starts off with a happy family scene, the Barot family consists of a couple (Amit and Manjari) and their children. Things almost seem too blissful, too perfect and soon enough, chaos is unleashed on the family. Their daughter goes missing while playing an innocent game of hide-and-seek and is later found murdered.

The parents are devastated on losing their child and their initial moments of grief and despair soon turns into anger. Who could possibly be behind this gory crime? A police investigation is started but due to lack of evidence, is consequently shut down. Soon, events roll out one after another and we soon realize that someone truly sinister is behind this. But could it be someone closer to the family than they think?

Barot House deserves acclaim for being a thriller that manages to catch us by surprise. It is no ordinary feat in a world where we can usually tell what twist a thriller will throw at us next. Including a fabulous twist at the end, Barot House manages to keep us enthralled, at the edge of our seat.

The performances are incredible. Manjari Phadnis plays the role of a grieving mother to perfection, without letting it lean toward melodrama. Amit Sadh is excellent in a role that is both complex and demands quite a bit from him. He doesn’t miss a single emotional beat.

The only letdown is, despite a brilliant story, at some portions Barot House seems like a drag. The editing is sloppy and some scenes seem disconnected with the overall narrative. Despite that, it is one of the better thrillers to have come out of the Indian web space and deserves a watch. Barot House has shown us once again that only content is king.

Our verdict: Binge-worthy
