Binge Or Cringe: Is Netflix’s Soni Worth The Buzz And Excitement?
The crime drama flick Soni which airs on Netflix has been buzzing big-time now. Here’s our take on the film
Soni is a cop drama based in Delhi which depicts a woman cop take on the increasing crimes in the city especially against women. The story depicts the story of Soni, an undercover cop working in the night shift. She majorly tackles rising crimes against women in the city. While, she is a solid cop, she’s a little soft and emotional when it comes to handling her personal life. Also, not to forget, that her temper is equivalent to that of Sreesanth fighting inside the Bigg Boss house.
Her boss superintendent of police, Kalpana is a bit harsh on her at times, but even understands her dilemma. However, Kalpana’s husband, commissioner Sandeep isn’t too forgiving. He keeps on taunting her and tells her that she has been pampering the entire staff. In fact, her mother-in-law too taunts her regards to family planning.
Amidst all these personal problems, how these two women take on crimes in the capital city is what forms the crux of the story.
Speaking of the cast, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan who plays Sub Inspector Soni is the heart of the film. As described by an uncle in the movie, Geetika is like Phoolan Devi, tough on the exterior but soft from the inside, especially when it comes to her own family matters. She has delivered an outstanding performance! Next up, Saloni Batra who plays the role of Kalpana, has given a beautifully understated performance. With a lot of restraint, she has portrayed the morals, dilemmas and agitation of Kalpana’s character. Then, Mohit Chauhan, who essays the role of Kalpana’s husband in the movie, perfectly essays the role of a typical Indian man who can never let go off his patriarchal roots.
Soni isn’t someone who roams around with spectacles in her collar, or not someone who runs in slo-mo. She doesn’t do anything extraordinary and that’s her biggest strength. Kudos to the director Ivan Iyer for understanding the beats of Delhi, its cop culture and most importantly women. Our verdict is definitely BINGEWORTHY!
