Delhi Crime is a crime drama based on the horrific Nirbhaya rape case that took place in Delhi in 2012. It made everyone question the safety of women in our country. The show is an edge-of-the-seat thriller, but the narrative is sometimes so dark that it makes you feel sick in the stomach. This series doesn’t talk about the details of the ghastly act, but focuses more on how the police investigated the case. We have seen several documentaries on this topic, but this one is the a first-of-its-kind that gives us the cop side of the view.
The series depicts how the Delhi police arrested the 6 criminals in a span of 5 days. The story revolves around Vartika Chaturvedi, DCP South Delhi, who learns about a disturbing crime committed in the middle of the night. She immediately senses something fishy and decides to get in action. Although there is political pressure on her, she is undeterred and successfully nabs all the 6 culprits. There are moments when the show gets preachy and you wonder if the cops really talk with so much of idealism, but the show continues to be gripping.
Delhi Crime stars Shefali Shah in the role of Vartika Chaturvedi. The actress is brilliant and delivers the best performance of her life. Even the other police officers- Rajesh Tailang, Rasika Duggal and Adil Hussain, prove their mettle and leave everyone impressed. The casting is on point and all the actors stay true to their characters.
The show has no over-the-top filmy policegiri. The writing stays focused and honest and consistently keeps you engaged and invested in the investigation! The fact is there couldn’t have been a better made show on this topic. Hats-off to the director Richie Mehta for his extensive research and a brilliantly written show!
