There is no one like our friends and to celebrate this bond Friendship Day also known as International Friendship Day is celebrated. In many parts of the country, this day is celebrated on July 30. But in India, this day is celebrated on first Sunday of August. However, in Oberlin, Ohio, Friendship Day is celebrated on 9 April, while in Nepal it is celebrated on July 30.
Date: In India, the first Sunday in the month of August is on 2nd. So, this year Friendship Day is celebrated on August 2. But this year people won’t be able to meet their friends owing to the pandemic.
History: World Friendship Day was first proposed by Dr Ramon Artemio Bracho in 1958 in Paraguay. He was having dinner with his friends hosted by Dr Ramon Artemio Bracho and there only he thought of celebrating a day on friends. There is another story also on International Friendship Day. It says that the day was first coined by Hallmark Greeting Cards founder Joyce Hall in 1930.
Significance: Friendship Day celebrates the strong old bond between two or more people irrespective of their caste, creed or colour. Friends are the backbone of everyone life. It is they who make our life easier and memorable.
