On Thursday night, veteran actor Ashok Saraf, renowned for his outstanding comic timing and a prolific career spanning over five decades with appearances in over 250 Marathi films, was bestowed with the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan Award for 2023. This highest civilian honour of the state was presented at the 57th Maharashtra State Marathi Film Awards ceremony. Ashok Saraf, aged 75, has also left his mark in Hindi films and iconic comedy-drama television series such as 'Hum Paanch.' The distinguished award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, a medal, and a citation, was handed over to the acclaimed actor by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. The CM of Maharashtra heaped praise on the veteran Marathi actor and said "He is still young at 75 and yearns to do something new. He is the real diamond of Marathi soil." It is an honour and pride for the state government to present the award to Saraf, the Shinde concluded. The Chief Minister affirmed his government's dedication to furnishing state-of-the-art facilities for film productions in Maharashtra, notably Mumbai, the nation's entertainment epicentre. 




During his acceptance speech for the Maharashtra Bhushan Award, Ashok Saraf conveyed his joy at receiving the state's highest honour. Expressing gratitude, he acknowledged Maharashtra as both his birthplace and workplace, highlighting the integral role of those who supported his illustrious 50-year career. The veteran actor recognized the discerning and critical audience of Maharashtra, emphasizing the artist's responsibility to strike a balance and consider the audience's preferences in their work.
