Today on February 19, as we celebrate the birth anniversary of the great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we give you a must-watch movie list to commemorate Shivaji Jayanti. Fatteshikast: Fatteshikast is an Indian Marathi language historical period drama film directed by Digpal Lanjekar starring Chinmay Mandlekar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Ankit Mohan and Mrunmayee Deshpande. It is based on a the legendary chapter from Maratha history, the famous encounter between Shivaji Maharaj and Shaista Khan at Lal Mahal where Shivaji cut the fingers of the latter while he attempted an escape. 

Farzand: Farzand is a historical drama by Digpal Lanjekar starring Prasad Oak, Ankit Mohan, Chinmay Mandlekar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Neha Joshi, and Sameer Dharmadhikari. It follows the story of warrior Kondaji Farzand, who along with 60 warriors defeated 2500 soldiers of the enemy to win the Panhala fort in just three and half hours in 1673.

Hirkani: Hirkani is a Prasad Oak film where Sonalee Kulkarni is in the titular role of 'Hirkani', a brave woman and an amazing mother who lived near the Raigad Fort in Maharashtra during the regime Chhatrapati Shivaji. It shows the greatness of Shivaji Maharaj’s rule and how he empowered every woman in his empire. 

Mi Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy: Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoyshows the plight of Marathi culture in today’s day and age and tells you how an underdog fights against the evil in society, to re-instate his identity and keep his pride.

Chatrapati Shivaji: Chhatrapati Shivaji is a black and white film by Bhalji Pendharkar starring Parshwanath Yeshwant Altekar, Chandrakant, Gajanan Jagirdar. This was one of the earliest attempts of Marathi cinema to narrate the greatness of Shivaji Maharaj on the silver screen.
