Legendary Composer Khayyam Passes Away: Marathi Film Stars Mourn The Death Of This Stalwart
The composer behind ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ and ‘Umrao Jaan’, Khayyam breathed his last on 19th August 2019 in Mumbai. He suffered from infection in his lungs and was hospitalized for the same, the cause of death was a cardiac arrest.

Khayyam contributed to Indian music in the late 70s and early 80s with songs from ‘Trishul’, ‘Thodi Si Bewafai’, ‘Bazaar’, ‘Dard’, ‘Noorie’, ‘Nakhuda’, ‘Sawaal’, ‘Bepannah’ and ‘Khandan’ which were some of his best works. 

The musical tracks of Muzaffar Ali's Umrao Jaan in 1981, ‘In Ankhon Ki Masti Ke’, ‘Ye Kya Jagah Hai’, and ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ are evergreen songs famous till date. Khayyam sahab gave music to 56+ films and many more singles. His music composition gave life to the work of lyricists and playback singers. 

Khayyam sahab won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 and soon he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 2011 at the hands of the then President, Pratibha Patil. Last year Khayyam Saahab was awarded the ‘Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award’. The awards holding highest degree of merit in music adorned the talent of Khayyam sahab. 

Marathi singer and legend of Indian musical industry, Lata Mangeshkar pays respect to Khayyam sahab upon his death through this tweet. She recollects how Khayyam sahab called her, his little sister and feels moved by his absence. On this uneventful day Lata didi mourns the death of this iconic stalwart of India music. 

Marathi film industry’s talented actor Prasad Oak too grieves the death of khayyam sahab and posts a few lines on Twitter to express his grief.
