National Film Awards 2019: Marathi Industry Making Its Mark With 5 Remarkable Awards
National Film Awards are one of the most respected awards that recognize cinematic masterpieces across regional and Bollywood films. There are more than 419 films competing in 31 categories for their due recognition from across the nation and Marathi film industry alone bagged more than 5 awards.

‘Best Film on Environmental Issues/ Awareness’  award was won by 'Paani', a Marathi film directed by Adinath Kothare and produced by Priyanka Chopra. This film was based on raising awareness on the issue of water conservation.


‘Best Debut Film of a Director’ was won by Nagraj Manjule’s 'Naal', a film that essays the purest relation in the world between a mother and her son, ever since the child is attached to the mother by an umbilical cord. Shrinivas Pokale from ‘Naal’ also bagged the 'Best Child Actor’ award. After the tremendous success of ‘Fandry’ and ‘Sairat’ in global cinemas, this is Nagraj Manjule, making Maharashtra proud again!


In the regional category, the ‘Best Marathi Film’ award was bagged by ‘Bhonga’ a film that is based on the problems faced by rural civilians due to religious practices. This being a sensitive topic has been dealt with a lot of maturity and thus deserves recognition.

Swanand Kirkire received the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award for 'Chumbak'. This film is a light comedy where two young boys scam an innocent man for money and end up on a journey of discovering life.


Marathi films have not only raised their bar, they have made the audience proud by giving a tough competition to Bollywood and Tollywood!
